Our captain's got the inside scoop on where the salmon are biting, so we'll hit the hot spots right off the bat. You've got a 2-fish limit per person, and trust me, these aren't just any fish – we're after trophy-worthy Chinook and Coho that'll put up a fight worthy of the stories you'll tell later. The best part? Our crew's there to help you every step of the way, from baiting hooks to netting your catch.
Gear Up and Get Fishing
Leave your worries – and your tackle box – at home. We've got you covered with top-notch gear that's perfect for battling these hard-fighting salmon. We're talking heavy-duty rods, reels spooled with fresh line, and a selection of lures and bait that the local salmon can't resist. Depending on where the fish are biting, we might be trolling with downriggers in the ocean or working the river currents. Either way, you'll be hands-on, learning techniques that the pros use. And hey, if you're new to this, don't sweat it – we'll show you the ropes, from setting the hook to playing your fish like a champ.
Anglers' Tales
"We had a great time today with Captain Travis and his Deck hand. They really worked hard to get us on the fish, despite the rough seas. Plus we all limited out on crab. I would totally recommend going out with SOA charters if you want a great experience fishing the ocean. Thank you again for the great trip Capt. Travis." - Howard
"Travis and his baiter did an excellent job. They worked hard at finding the best spots to catch fish on our excursion, they kept the bait fresh and changed tackle as needed. Both were personable, friendly, helpful, and skilled at their jobs. The boat was clean and well kept. Travis even extended our trip to ensure everyone had the chance to catch a fish despite a front moving in and making it more challenging to get salmon to bite. They kept up with river and bar changes to ensure we had a safe and enjoyable trip. Unfortunately, the bar was closed by the Coast Guard for ships smaller than 40 ft in length due to water conditions which prevented us from having more opportunity to catch fish. I highly recommend the charter. No children were on the charter we took so I can not speak to how well they do with children but they were very helpful to both novice and experienced fishers." - Judith
The Prized Catch
Chinook Salmon, aka King Salmon, are the heavyweight champs of the Pacific Northwest. These bruisers can tip the scales at over 50 pounds, though a more typical catch might be in the 15-30 pound range. They're known for their rich, fatty meat that's perfect for grilling or smoking. Chinooks are spring and fall runners, with the fall fish often being the bigger ones. When you hook into one of these bad boys, you'll know it – they fight like they've got someplace better to be, and it's your job to convince them otherwise.
Coho Salmon, or Silvers, might be a bit smaller than their Chinook cousins, but what they lack in size, they make up for in attitude. These acrobatic fish are known for their spectacular jumps and runs that'll have your drag singing. Typically weighing in between 8-12 pounds, Cohos are prized for their firm, orange flesh. They start showing up in late summer and stick around through fall. Pound for pound, many anglers consider Coho the best fighting salmon out there – hook one, and you'll see why.
