About Captain Tom
Captain Tom brings his own inspiring story and deep-rooted passion for fishing to the SOA Charters team. A graduate of South Umpqua High School in Myrtle Creek, Oregon, Tom joined the United States Marine Corps in 2007 and served six years as a Helicopter Mechanic. In 2013, he was medically retired following an eleven-month battle with bone cancer. A lifelong fisherman—from the reservoirs of Colorado to the Pacific Ocean—Tom’s heart belongs to the pursuit of anadromous fish in the Pacific Northwest, especially steelhead. As he puts it, “Nothing makes you feel more alive than a cold winter morning, reel screaming with a giant Umpqua steelhead on the other end of the line.” From his earliest days learning that people could make a living guiding others to salmon and steelhead, Tom has chased that dream with dedication and heart—qualities he now brings to every trip with SOA Charters.

What do I need to bring for my fishing charter?
Guests should bring a valid Oregon fishing license and salmon/halibut/crabbing tags (if applicable), sunscreen, sunglasses, snacks, drinks, and weather-appropriate clothing. What is your cancellation policy?
We understand that plans can change. Cancellations made at least 3 days before your scheduled trip will receive a full refund or can be rescheduled for another date. Any cancellations made within 72 hours of your trip will result in a partial or non-refundable deposit, depending on the circumstances.
