Oregon Coast Salmon & Crab Fishing Adventure

Looking for the real deal when it comes to Oregon fishing? This 5-hour shared charter out of Winchester Bay puts you right where the action is hottest. We're talking fresh salmon runs and fat Dungeness crab, all in one epic day on the water. Captain Travis and his crew know these waters like the back of their hand, and they'll put you on fish whether we're working the Umpqua River or heading offshore into the Pacific. With limits of 2 salmon and 12 crab per angler, you're looking at a cooler full of the Pacific Northwest's finest. This isn't just another fishing trip – it's your chance to experience what makes Oregon's coast legendary among serious anglers.

What to Expect on the Water

You'll be fishing aboard a rock-solid 28-foot Hewescraft that handles whatever the Pacific throws at us. This boat was built for Oregon waters, and with space for up to 6 anglers, you'll have plenty of room to work without getting tangled up with your buddies. The beauty of this charter is flexibility – we go where the fish are biting. Some days that means working the lower Umpqua River where salmon stage up before their spawning runs. Other days we'll punch through the bar and hit the offshore grounds where the big kings cruise. Your captain reads conditions daily and makes the call based on where we'll put the most fish in the boat. The crabbing happens simultaneously, with pots soaking while we're working the salmon grounds. It's efficient fishing that maximizes your time and your catch.

    Gear and Techniques

All your tackle comes included, and we're talking top-shelf stuff that can handle everything from scrappy coho to tackle-busting chinook. For salmon, we'll be running a mix of trolling setups depending on conditions – maybe pulling flasher and hoochie combos in the ocean or switching to spinners and bait when we're working river structure. The crab game is all about location and timing. We drop our pots on productive bottom, let them soak while we chase salmon, then come back to haul in limits of fresh Dungeness. No need to stress about technique if you're new to this – the crew walks everyone through the process and helps with everything from setting the hook to netting your fish. Experienced anglers appreciate the quality gear and the crew's willingness to let you work your own fish once you've got things dialed in.

    What Anglers Are Saying

"Travis and Tom were awesome. Took extra time with our son on his first ocean fishing adventure and made sure everyone had a great time. Our son thought he had a "fish on" about every 30-45 seconds and Tom and Travis never got tired of letting him know what was and wasn't a fish on the line. They answered all of his (and my questions since I hadn't been ocean fishing in over 20 years) and were gracious, funny, and kind. Great trip with great people." - Justin

"Limited on Coho and Dungeoness crab! Great trip. Captain was awesome. I will be back!" - Christopher

    Species You'll Target

Chinook salmon are the kings of the Pacific, and for good reason. These bruisers can push 30-plus pounds and will test every ounce of your tackle and technique. They show up in Winchester Bay waters from late spring through fall, with the fattest fish often arriving during the summer months. What makes chinook special isn't just their size – it's their fight. They'll make blistering runs, jump clear of the water, and generally do everything possible to throw your hook. The meat is rich, oily, and perfect for grilling or smoking. Landing your first chinook is a rite of passage that'll have you planning your next trip before you even get back to the dock.

Coho salmon might be smaller than their chinook cousins, but they make up for it with pure athleticism. These silver bullets are absolute acrobats, jumping repeatedly and making lightning-fast direction changes that'll keep you on your toes. Coho typically run 8-15 pounds and show up in good numbers during late summer and early fall. They're aggressive biters that'll hit a variety of lures, making them perfect for anglers who want consistent action. The meat is lighter than chinook but incredibly versatile in the kitchen. Many guides consider coho the most fun fish to catch on light tackle – they fight way above their weight class.

Dungeness crab are the bonus that makes this trip special. These sweet, meaty crabs are what Oregon's coast is famous for, and there's nothing quite like pulling up a pot full of keeper-sized males. Peak crabbing typically runs from December through August, with the fattest, best-tasting crabs usually showing up after they've molted and filled out their new shells. A limit of 12 crab per person means you're looking at serious table fare – enough for a proper crab feed with family and friends. The hard part isn't catching them; it's deciding whether to boil them up immediately or save some for crab cakes later in the week.

    Time to Book Your Spot

This is hands-down one of the best values on the Oregon coast. You're getting world-class salmon fishing, premium crabbing, and expert guidance all rolled into one action-packed day. Whether you're a seasoned angler looking to explore new waters or someone who's ready to experience what Oregon fishing is all about, this charter delivers. The crew's patience with beginners and willingness to share local knowledge makes this trip perfect for family adventures or solo anglers wanting to learn the ropes. With salmon runs and crab seasons overlapping for much of the year, there's rarely a bad time to get out there. Don't wait until the best dates are gone – these shared charters fill up fast, especially during peak season. Book now and get ready for a day on the water that'll have you
